Need more information. When you say "dim lights", do you mean your low-beam headlamps don't work? Or something else? What-all lights do and don't work on your car? The high beams work? The parking lamps work? How about the turn signals, front and rear? Dashboard lights?

Hey sorry to hijack...
Dan: when I use my dash dimmer knob (turning clockwise the light switch knob) It burns the "sprig" that takes care of dimming it. I for sure exceeded the amp operating range of that dimmer, didn't I? or should I look after something else?

That "spring" is a rheostat, a coiled resistance wire that wipes against a stationary contact to give more or less resistance to the dashboard lamps. What do you mean when you say yours is burning? Smoke and flames, a "hot" smell, or it just doesn't work any more? They do burn out after awhile; new switches are readily available up here (how 'bout down there?). Have you changed your dash bulbs at all?

Bright headlights work but dims don't I vote for a bad dimmer switch. Had that problem happen to me more than once.

no, I kill the new switchs if I try to dim. And I get them down here pretty cheap, like $16 american dollars. I haven´t changed to the ones that you sent me but I have like 13 little 4 or 5 watts lamps connected to that rheostat. Hot, smell, fumes and eventually if I leave it there it burns the plastic casing where the rheostat coil is enclosed (used to be some kinda ceramiz stuff, now they make it synt.

Sounds like there's a bigger load on the dimmer switch than you think there is................

Any way to put an ammeter inline to see how many amps are going thru the circuit. (do it before & after to see how much of the load is heat too..........)

BTW: you forget to mention slant6............
