just in time for holloween my electrical system decides to be a pain in the @$$. here's the story...after it rained a week or so ago, my blinkers started being wierd. they were on and off but still worked most of the time. i was sitting at a red light the other day and i smelled something funky- smoke was coming from underneath my steering wheel. my only guess is that either the switch blew or i have some kind of fuse out. this is problem number one. problem number two. had a blown light in the passenger side brake light. went to replace it and somehow a fuse or something blew. now i have no brake lights, and for some odd reason, no instrument lights either. please help before i get pulled over. Dan i know we've had our differences but you are the expert in vehicle lighting. i need your advice thanks -Josh |

Replace fuses and bulbs as required. Replace turn signal switch and carefully inspect underdash harness. D/W |

Turn signal switch needs replacement. Brake lamps and instrument lamps are on a common fuse so that you'll notice the failure from inside the car, NOT just when someone hits you from behind. Common cause of brake/IP fuse failure is short to ground at very end of brake lamp wires (insulation fails right at socket entrance, wire grounds on socket body, blows fuse). Inspect all brake lamp wires carefully, replace as necessary. |
