Post subject:  Do I need a press (?) to replace my wheel bearings?

I checked my repair manual but it just says to make the old ones go out with a brass bearings but what about putting the new ones? Is it a tricky thing to do? Do i risk to place it "sideways"?
Thanks for your help

:?: not quite sure i understand the question the way it's worded. sorry...
are we talking front wheel bearings, rear wheel bearings (if rears, what axle), bearing races, disc brakes or drum brakes? what do you mean when you said "sideways?," year/make/model? what exactly are we talking about here :?:
again, sorry but i'm not sure anybody here can help without more info.

A press is a good idea to remove and replace the bearing races but you can do it with a hammer if you can't get access to a press. It works best if you have a mandral or a bushing driver type of tool to install the new races.

Well, i haven't been really clear...
Talking about front wheel bearings with disc brakes on a 68 dart.
When i talk about sideways, i mean pushing the bearing slanted into the wheel hub.

Beat the old race out with a punch and hammer. Leave your new race in the freezer overnight. Use the old race backwards to drive in the new one if you don't have the proper bearing driver. If you use the old race you should grind a little clearance around the outside circumference so that the race doesn't get stuck. I have also used the old wheel bearing and a hammer to drive in a new race but I don't suggest that. If you do use an old bearing make sure to turn it repeatedly so it doesn't only contact one part of the race.
