Just as I suspected, #5 piston had an eyebrow out of the top ring land directly under the intake valve. Ring is still intact, cylinder wall is scuffed. It may or may not hone out. Head gasket was about to let go between the 1-2 and 4-5 cylinders too. Head looks fine, and so do all 5 other pistons/cylinders. I am tasking it out to MIke's soon. If we can't save the wall, it will get cut +.100" and a set of nitrous pistons will go in. ![]() I may have a deal going to get a '71 4-speed Duster to put this moder in. The red car will definitely be parted out after Bowling Green. ![]() |

Ouch! Sounds like you have a plan on getting back in there and getting that 11.xxx... Does this mean you're going to run the tight ratio 4 speed? or are you going to plate up the hump and run your A904? That'll make a good car to run! good luck D, be home in a couple of weeks to hear more about the adventures of Sos... -D.Idiot |

The '66 is just not in good enough condition to be going as fast as it is, and is definitely not in good enough shape to justify the needed safety upgrades. Trust me, 12.0's in a car with a lap belt, drum brakes and all sheet metal patched floor pan does not give a warm and fuzzy feeling. ![]() The other Duster I am looking at has the standard A-body 4 speeed in it, has disc brakes, and a solid floor. ![]() After I get done taking all my good stuff out of the '66, there won't be much left. There is not really any good body panels on it. Everything is either rusted or bondo'd. ![]() I have a line on a '64 Dart convertible too. It is supposedly rust free but needs a top. Not sure I wanna do another early A body though. ![]() |

I don't think so. The body lines are pretty different. ![]() |

Had to do the Dart two years ago ole Buddy Bagel. Alluninum froorpans tied frame rails 6 point roll cage braced cross members. The Dart still has good sheetmetal so that is why we did it. Your right also im not as fast as you but a lap belt at 12.50 at 108 a person gets wiser quick. I still have 9 inch brakes up front but have a b-body 8 3/4 rear brakes in back but i guess i need to update the front ones. Answer me a question would disc brakes realy be better up front with M/T front runner racing tires are would they just slide them. Your Redneck friend Possum ![]() Footbrakers Rule Slant Six Racing |

66 Valiant front clip will bolt right up to a 66 Dart - body lines match perfectly (same for all 63-66 A bodies). Possum, you are probably OK with those 9" drums in good shape, but the tires could probably handle a little more brake even. A nice light wilwood setup would weigh the same or less and give better braking power. Lou |

Ron, I got rid of my 9" fronts when I couldn't stop for the first turnout at Clay City. My car was only running 90 in the 1/4 then. ![]() I had 11" on the rear too. ![]() ![]() The only drawback to disc brakes is that they may not hold as well on the starting line feetsbrakin'. Put the cheapest organic pads on them you can find and that will help a ton. Discs do weigh more than drums too, unless yoyu use Wilwood or Aerospace race brakes. ![]() Oh yeah, with my 10/11" drums at St. Louis this year I did not feel comfortable trying to stop at the first turnout from 107+. ![]() |

I got a good look at some pics of the "solid" Duster. I think rust free means he isn't charging me for the rust. I may still buy it as a parts deal though, it does have some good stuff in it. ![]() |

There is just a couple of 1/4 mile tracks we race that is a little spoofy. Clay City is one and Columbus is the other. I know im not no bad azz fast car but i doint have bad azz brakes either. Were going to rebuild the brakes this winter new shoes have got a set of 9 inch drums that are turned and look good also new wheel cylinders all the way around new hoses and a new master cylinder. We doint worry about stopping at the first turnaround. Hell at Bristol i can go thru the 1/4 mile not touch the brakes and will have to speed up to get to the second return road. Thanks Ron Parker ![]() Hey Has That Thing Got A Bagel Bamboozler In It |
