Ok ive know 2 friends now that when they turn a corner there tires will squeal for no reason. what ive though of so far is that
low pressure
glazed tires(cheap tires)
really bad alignment
any other ideas

Ok ive know 2 friends now that when they turn a corner there tires will squeal for no reason. what ive though of so far is that low pressure glazed tires(cheap tires) really bad alignment any other ideas

Possibly a bent steering arm. Does it do it all the time, or just on turns? A bent steering arm will cause too much "toe out on turns", which means in a turn, one wheel is turning out much more than the other even though the toe is set right. Hope this helps! |

Probably Michelins...I've never had a Michelin tire that didn't squeal when turning, starting, stopping and probably while sitting still. They might last a long time and handling is okay, but I still hate 'em. |

Sure your not skidding over painted lines on the ground? Or maybe a ps pump issue? Thats a longer shot though. |

The Durango and Dakota had serious ball joint issues; in fact some were recalled. Your friend should get that checked out. I don't know that it would cause squealing tires but it can't help. |

the recall was for 4wd I think it was all 2001-dec 03 production durangos and dakotas. |

classic symptom of an alignment problem. Probably due to worn or bent front end parts, that ball joint idea is probably the ticket. |

Yes the michelins on my Cherokee squeal a little, but they've got almost 80k on them wand still have over 1/2 their original tread... the 1st 60k they were on my Wrangler, and compared to the Goodyear Wranglers that it came with (absolutely NO traction with the slightest amount of dampness on the road; had to run around in 4WD with morning dew) I'll take a little squeal! I have had several sets of Michelins over the years and this is the 1st set that I remember doing this. And yes I did buy this set new, too. As an alignment guy the last 18 years (before this yr.; I now work in industrial maintenance) I will say that the most common thing that I saw to cause a squeal was the toe setting being wayyy off sometimes a car can be downright squirrelly. Usually it was either because someone had just replaced something on the front end or had something bent, often in the winter after having had to be rescued from a ditch by a tow truck. |
