Post subject:  What is the largest tire?

I have a set of outlaw rims 15x8 J, I'd like to put them on my 74 Dart Swinger (rear). If these fit, what size tires could I put on them (unmodified).

Thanks for the help.

I've runned 235-60 R14 on my car w/o problems. I think that 235/55 R15 or 235/50 R15 would do it (for a "normal" daily driven car.... you'll have better handing without loosing the riding comfort)

My main concern I guess is the width. Will tires that fit on 15x8 rims fit into the slightly recessed rear wheel wells of the Dart? Also does any one know of a web site that has a metric/standard tire size converter so I can get a better idea of the tire sizes in inches? Thanks folks.

grizzly-
i was able to fit 17x8 mustang wheels with 235/45-17 bridgestones (i think 245s will fit mo problem) under all four corners of my 70 swinger. i have about 3/4" to spare on the rear and had to adjust the wheel opening at the front of both front fenders. i just took a bunch of careful measurements using a straightedge and strings weighted with lugnuts clamped to the inside of the fenderwells. be sure to leave a little room for suspension trave/tyre distortion between the tyres and sheetmetal.
as far as getting tyre measurements, you can look up various sizes at tirerack.com and get some dimensions that will help you in selecting sizes and taking measurements.

I like this converter:

http://tinyurl.com/c2xl2 --put your current size in, and it tells you what you have and the closest matches for diameter and translates those pesky metric numbers into inches

Less complicated, same thing:

This probably isn't exactly what you're looking for but I've found it useful.
