Post subject:  Battery cable routing

I am wondering where to route the battery cable for my trunk mounted battery. I want it to be NHRA legal. Can it pass through the passenger compartment? if I route it under the car its close to the fuel line on the passenger side and it seams that is would be close to exhaust on the drivers side. I would sure like to see some pictures of your trunk mounted battery installation.[/img]

Mine goes from the battery to the kill switch, then through the floor, along the frame, and up to the starter. I believe it can go through the passenger compartmment, but you need a kill switch in the posive cable for it to be legal.

"legal" as in "track-legal" or "street legal"?

That would be NHRA track legal. I doubt there's any regulations concerning the battery cable routing for the street. There would be some for fuel, exhaust, and brake line routing, though.

NHRA requires a master disconnect, mounted on the rear-most part of the car, whenever the battery is relocated from stock. It must be left-for-off, or push-for-off, and may not be of a keyed type. Must also be labeled

NHRA also requires that the battery either be in an approved box or the trunk has to be bulkheaded from the passenger compartment. Kill switch also has to be clearly marked.
