Post subject:  Exhaust pipe routing

This is going to seem like a strange question so bear with me. I am thinking about re-routing the exhaust on my Satellite to something more effecient. Currently I have a 2" pipe, manifold to bumper that exits on the passenger side. This means the pipe makes two sharp bends, one to go under the engine, and the other to go toward the rear of the car. I want to eleminate these bends, and just have the pipe (using a 2.25" pipe) run under the driver side of the car. Now here is where I have the question. I have column shift, so that means the linkage is on that side, though the rear cross member has clearence for an exhaust pipe. Do I run the exhaust pipe under the linkage, or do I run it between the floor pan/firewall and linkage? Are there any factory slant cars with the exhaust pipe on the driver side? How are they routed? Thanks.

My 64 has the exhaust on the drivers side.

It runs down the middle next to the hump (on drivers side), then angles out towards the side before the rear axle.

Just drive to the muffler shop you plan to use and ask can you do this.

Don't know if this will help, but my '66 Dart with console shift has the exhaust routed under the driver's side floor pan outboard of the shift linkage. The exhaust is mounted lowermost of everything and tucks up nicely.

Should be possible- not much different that the left half of a dual exhaust system on a V8/Dual Exhaust B-body, which runs beneath the shift linkage.
