I'll be rebuilding another /6 this summer (yay :? ) and I'm looking for some decent machine shops in or around Waterloo, IA. I know there were at least a couple members from that neck of the woods around here last summer, so I thought they might still be lurking around and able to offer some insight. At a bare minimum I'm going to be needing hot-tanking, magnafluxing, a valve job, and block/head milling. If I get ambitious I may even want the crank and rods balanced, and need the block bored out.

Stryker....Let me do some checking around. I know of a machine shop that has a decent rep, but we're in the heart of, (or damn close to it), dirt track stock car country, and those boys typically keep most of the shops pretty busy during racing season. I can't say how much of a wait you might have for just the basics for a rebuild.
Keep an eye on this thread and I'll get back to it in a day or three.

Roger

Not to be a pain, but *bump*. I'm looking to drop it off at a shop within a week or two. I've found one out in Dysart that sounds very promising, and a few here in Waterloo that I need to call back tomorrow.

Whoops! Sorry....forgot I promised you this.

Performance Auto on Falls Ave. does this kind of work, and he claims that things usually don't get pushed back in favor for the roundy-round guys. He did say that there is an occasional "emergency", but not very often. Claims about a 7-10 day turnaround for a head rebuild, but he doesn't do valve seat inserts. That is farmed out to a different shop.

I wonder if that Dysart shop is "Radar" Luchtenburg's(sp) place........
If it is, he's damn good. I think he's a bit high for my wallet, but.........
