What are you going for? Performance or driver? I'm not a fan of the 1920 but they can be rebuilt. |

Driver. Performance is pretty unattainable with a full size window van. |

some people over on the .com site have had some luck with using a 1-2bbl adaptor. getting better fuel economy and more umph (which you could sure use in a van!) beyond that, the carter bbs is the better one barrel in my humble opinion. having said that, i have a holley 1945 for sale if you need it. sb |

Don't sell yourself short. However, for just driver use, I'd rebuild the 1920. DO NOT get a parts store rebuilt carb. You WILL regret it later, when you are stuck w/ a crappy carb and don't have your old one to rebuild properly. If you want to get just a little ambitious, go w/ a two barrel and the a carter BBD.

First choice: A new carb (not remanufactured, not rebuilt), either Carter BBS or Holley 1920. I like the design details of the BBS better, in general, but new vs. old in this case generally trumps Carter vs. Holley. (The Holley 1945 is a different story; I wouldn't want one of those in any condition!) If new is not an option for whatever reason, the Carters rebuild and "stay fixed" better than the Holleys as they get on in years, so a carefully-reconditioned Carter BBS would be second preference. Not just a carb kit, I mean a complete recondition job with new throttle bushings, casting surfaces trued, etc. I use the Old Carb Doctor (800-945-CARB) for this sort of work; it costs about the same as a new carb would run if you find one. I had a few new 1920s, sold most or all of them (might have a few left, would hafta check). |

What's the story on a 2 bbl adaptor? I am aware of the super six two barrel intake but is there an adaptor for the single intake manifold? |

Eegads, here we go again.One word: No. If you want a 2bbl, use the correct 2bbl intake! 2bbl carb-to-1bbl manifold adaptors aren't just a bad idea, they're a really dumb idea. Best analogy I can come up with at the moment: You decide to install really powerful headlamps, but before you use them, you spray black paint on them so they're 50% occluded. Or: You decide to put on a nice free-flowing 2-1/4" exhaust system, but you weld a big washer with a 1" centre hole over the end of the tailpipe. Or: You hop up your engine so it produces 40% more horsepower, and drive around with the parking brake on. Or...get the picture? |

But that adds backpressure so you get better mileage and power at lower rpms..........

Can a poorly adjusted / burned out carb cause severe overheating? I've got a freshly rebuilt slant 6 with an old carburetor i found lying around and the engine hits 250 degrees going 35 mph. The timing is set, new radiator, water pump, thermostat, all hoses, heater core, everything. Still overheats bad. The way the carb backfires and stutters and not knowing it's age i am going to replace it hoping to solve the heating problem. Any advice? |

There's a bunch of guys over at .com that are real happy with the Weber and the adaptor on the stock intake. It seems that the people looking for power don't have much luck with them, but all the guys that use stock slants for economical daily drivers rave about the weber/convertor/single intake. I have an old truck, and all I want is something dependable that is cheap to keep on the road.Good luck. I am suprised that someone didn't yell and scream at you to do a search. I guess there is no more information on the topic and anybody that doesn't adhere to the collective mantra need not share.

When it comes to size, how does the DGAV compare to a BBD? If it's closer in size to a BBS, I could see it working with an adapter. |
