Someone told me about using a GM FWD torque converter on a 904 to bump the stall speed up to about 2200 rpm. Anyone else ever heard of such a thing?

Also, I have an '82 lock-up 727 with the factory "high stall" converter. About what range am I looking at for the stall?

1) GM FWD transmission: Metric. Torqueflite 904: Non-metric. I'd bet any money it won't fit. And where are we going to find a starter motor to bolt up to the Torqueflite and mesh with the GM converter?

2) Even if by some miracle (or expensive custom-build modification) it were to fit, I would place this idea in the "incredibly, remarkably bad" category.

I don't know of any GM FWD converter that will fit. All of them, I have seen, have the starter teeth on the flexplate, not on the converter. Our Mopars have the starter teeth on the converter. Even if the converter fit the trans, and bolted up to the mopar flex plate, there would be nothing for the starter to mesh with.

Even if it worked, why? You can just buy a higher stall 904 torque converter.
