The only drawback to 2.2 pistons is that you have to find a set of 198 rods to use them with. It is not a drop-in.

I think the 4 cyl piston aren't so far down below the deck on the 225's. So with them you might actually get some quench without resorting to massive block & head shaving. |

And yeah, the supply of 198 rods is finite. I keep thinking sooner or later somebody's going to come out with a trick aftermarket 198-type rod... |

Been away for a while (5, 6, yrs.) but now I'm back!!!, What is the measurement of the 198 rod? from what to what ? I have a box of rods , some with pistons some W/O. how do I measure to tell what I have? I need a easy way to do this as I have no Mics. etc ,Also have a 198 block(bare) so I think I have a set of 198 rods some where!!! Also have a bunch of stuff for old slants like a dual point malory Dist and coil , lots of manifolds...Just getting "restarted "in the Slant game. Hi to Doug and company, purchased a slant Volare wagon and a 85 Slant D100 OD 4spd short bed. I've got the old YELLOW moter sitting on the stand with the Jahns pistons , the 460 cam and the big valve head(after years of waiting to find the perfect place for it) I'm not sure, the truck or the wag.?? For those newbys, ck page 46 of no. 60 Slant 6 news. That's me! |

198 rods are not hard to find if you can spot the motors in the boneyard. I have a set. The effort in pulling the rods from a salvage yard motor makes them kind of pricey, a true labor of love. My 236" DeSoto has 8 inch rods. I'd like to use those rods with a 265" block for the same reasons long rod 225 motors are built, but I'd have to use custom pistons. |

Somewhere in the 'Articles' section you can find the part number that is on the rods. Then you don't even have to measure.  Dan, there are many choices for aftermarket Slant rods. None of them are what you would call "economical" though.

Hi Bruce... Good to hear from you. Start checking those con rods, look for forging number 2951260 The big advantage to using the longer con rod is that you can then use a shorter & lighter piston. The 2.2 pistons also use thinner rings that help reduce friction, especially in our high piston speed (long stroke) 225 Slants. DD |

Dan, thanks for the measurements, I was aware that the 198 and 225s blocks were the same, thats why I questioned myself that I "should" have saved the rods but I needed the sizes (and now Doug has given me the # tks). There is no telling what I'll find as I go through a 15 yr. plus stash of parts. There will be more posts on this pile of STUFF.... The news has a lime color and features 64 Darts... Dustenn89 I have several super six manifolds on running engines and I "think" there maybe a spare somewhere in the stash but it will be some time untill I've gone through the various places that they are stored...stay tuned. |

I bought two sets from Judy Drake a couple years ago nice rods. One set is in my race engine the other as backups or a 2.2 build up. Might ask Tom if they have any more for sale.
