Post subject:  Early "A" body slant headers

I have been talking to someone about building headers for the early "A" body (66 & older) with a slant. How many would be interested? Biggest question: What style, long tube, like the "old" Cliffords, or Shorty style? Any interest in them for a 170? Price would be less than Cliffords.

Revised poll to include a medium length header.

Charlie,

I would be interested in both a 225 and 170 set if he gets into making them.

According to Cameron, who has done hundreds of hours of Slant dyno tuning, primary header pipes about 30-34" long make the most HP in various situations. These are neither "long" or "short" by US header standards. I would vote for this length, but shorty would be my second choice.

Another request would be to make the header near the head port not curve down so dramatically as most of the Clifford shorty headers do. This turn will cost HP and it not necessary for almost all intake manifolds.

How about an exhaust manifold that comes together into a turbo flange? Sorry, I thought I'd ask while we were welding up stuff

I would be interested in mid length. I'd like it if it didn't come perilously close to the ground. Are we talking 6 into 1 or 2x3? Also, will the flange be the thick, Clifford style or the thinner Hooker type?

I like the idea of a 170 turbo style header. If you're going 6 into 1 anyways just make them all turbo flanged and include a flange for those not going turbo. It doesn't make much difference to a muffler shop what kind of flange they are welding pipe for if the header has the proper flange with it. And if it will fit the 170 it will fit a 225.

Would these be two 3 into 1 or a 6 into 1 Design?

There will not be a turbo manifold. Nothing is deceided about the configuration. I am just trying to get a feel for what is wanted, and how many he might be able to sell. That way he can make the decision, about whether to build them or not.

i would prefer 6 into 1, short or mid. no low hanging pipes(been there done that), thick flange for bolt on ease.

I'd take a pair of 170&225 medium length. collector not important.
