Can someone tell me the drop difference between a '64 Valiant S6 centerlini and a V8? Also, I need a V8 one, if anyone has a spare.... Also, are the 64 Pitman arms readily available? Is it possible to fit a later PS box from an A body onto the 64 K frames? thanks |

Don't sweat it. I swapped a 273 for a 225 in a 64 Valiant and zero problems. The links looked identical in the Valiant and the Dart donor car. Also, are the 64 Pitman arms readily available? Is it possible to fit a later PS box from an A body onto the 64 K frames? thanks I can't help with the pitman arm availablity or gear box swapping, sorry. Budd |

Roughly an inch. Interchange is '65-'66 A-body plus '64 with V8. Note that the factory used only one drag link in A-bodies from '65-'66, it was the "V8" deep-drop unit introduced on V8 cars only in '64. It's entirely likely that the aftermarket supplied mostly the deep-drop "V8" link, too.Quote: Also, are the 64 Pitman arms readily available?
Interchange is '62-'66 A-body, all engines all steering systems.Quote: Is it possible to fit a later PS box from an A body onto the 64 K frames?
Interchange is '62-'72 A and B body, power or nonpower.

Dan, are you sure? I have had several slant six and 273 powered 65 Valiants, over the years. On all the ones I had, the center link was different, between the six and V-8. I thought Mopar went to the "common" center link in 66.

Might be able to help on the pitman arm issue. A buddy of mine has some old Moog parts on the shelf, some have been there since he got this store 25+ years ago. They are not in the current Moog catalog, but as they start out with K7.... I know that they are Mopar parts. I have a list of the numbers and I paln on E mailing Federal Mogul today to see if they can ID them, as to application and supersedences/dropped part numbers. There are quite a few pitman arms in the stash. The way Moog does their numbering system, for the most part, on the "K" series numbers, parts that start with "K5..." or "K6" are GM, "K7" is Mopar and "K8..." are Fords. There are a few (like K 8194,K8195) that have apps that it many makes. "K" series numbers would be ball joints, control arm shafts/bushings, and idler/pitman arms. "DS" are center drag links or long tie rods, "ES" would be most tie rods. On these other parts there isn't as much rhyme or reason to their numbers as on the K series numbers. hope this helps on swap meet finds and I'll check into those numbers of my buddys stash to see what they fit & let you know if I find anything of interest to the slanted crowd. |

Don: The '62-'66 A-body pitman arm is K7020. The idler is a K414. |

Not so, there were differant center links for \6 and V8 in '65. I swapped a v8 center link into my Dart and there is 1" differance in the drop between the two.

Only one P/N for the center link in the '65 and '66 factory parts catalogues, and it's the same P/N listed in the '64 FPC for V8-equipped A-bodies. Maybe you have an early-production '65, or some previous owner replaced the original drag link at some point.

I've got a 65 Dart slant 6 with an April 65 production date and it has the nearly straight across center link (definitely different from the V9 version). To my knowledge, the centerlink has never been changed. My 65 Valiant slant also has the same identical part. My 65 273 Barracuda has the dropped link. |

Just went and checked the print date in my '65 FPC; it's the "final edition" (printed in early '66) so I'm guessing one of the changes they made on the service parts end was just listing the one (drop-center) drag link for sixes and V8s. From responses here, looks like they carried on using the "six cylinder" drag link in production through at least some of '65 production. Thanks for the reality check! |

My Mar66 edition of 1965 Passenger Parts Catalog lists for center link: 1) 2269-359 under Standard Steering , 2) 2269-359 for V8 under Power Steering , 3)2072-571 for slants under Power Steering. Is it possible that a V8 center link was furnished if you had Standard Steering regardless of engine? I am converting my 65 slant Dart from stock 65 power steering to stock 65 standard steering and hope that the center link can remain unchanged regardless of steering type. Any confirmation on this? |

Looks like I was "off by one" (year) previously. I confirm what you see in your March '66 1965 FPC in my March '66 1965 American FPC. My 1966 FPC shows just the 2269 359 for all A-bodies, regardless of engine or power/manual steering. I'll have to look and see what my '65 Canadian FPC has to say the next time I have it in hand; I think this what we're seeing is a misprint in the 3/66 '65 FPC; there's no reason why there'd be a different centre link for power vs. manual steering, but there is a reason why there'd be a different one for 6- vs. 8-cylinder engine, and the '64 American FPC shows 2072 571 for 6-cylinder engine with power or manual steering, and 2269 359 for 8-cylinder engine with power or manual steering. |

on a lighter note the dropped center link is a beefier piece(diameter) than the slant item. The 66 dart I parted had the dropped link in it. Lawrence |

I just took a look at my 66 slant Barracuda to see what centerlink it had. To my surprise it has the slant centerlink and not the V8 one. I can't imagine someone swapping out a V8 for a slant centerlink as the car looks to be totally original (albeit needing a complete resto). |
