I'm in the middle of doing a super six conversion. Is there an easier way to attach the kickdown lever to the tranny besides dropping the crossmember/transmission for access? I don't see any other way to get to the bolt...

I like to jack the car up and go at it form the bottom. The transmisison crossmember should be about a foot an a half behind the lever you are trying to work on. All you ned is a box end wrench to snake up in there. I have done this swap many times and never had to drop the transmission to do it.

Really? The car's jacked up. Okay, I'll keep trying. But getting the old lever off seems hard enough, but getting the NEW one on seems like it will be a nightmare...

Thanks!

ll you should have to do is loosen the nut on the arm, pry it off with a screwdriver, slide the new one onto the stud on the transmission and tighten up the new nut.

Alternatively, you can just pull the little square clamp out of the arm and swap that and leave your original arm in place.

if you pull the cotter pin the bar just pulls out of the trans lever.

I finally got it, but I ended up disconecting the crossmember and dropping the trans several inches.

At least on my '72 Swinger, there was no possible way I could get any kind of wrench on the bolt, and even if I had, I wouldn't have had room to turn it (and I have small hands). Between the shifter linkage, trans tunnel and exhaust pipe, there just wasn't any free space.

I realize I could've just connected the SS linkage to the 1bbl pivot, but I wasn't sure if the pivot arm for the super six linkage was any different from the stock piece, so I wanted to replace it as well.

I buttoned everything up and started her up this afternoon (with an open Dutra manifold up front!). Now I can't wait for Saturday, so I can get my 2" dual exhaust installed and zoom around town! Thanks for the help!
