considering going to a 318 or 360 from my slant, is the motor swap mounts just bolt on or is there in deed some welding and changing of the structure involed?

It depends. What year and model is the car you're considering doing this swap on?

if you used the Aspen K-member and it was a slant six 'K', you'll need to check with Schumacher Industries about a set of 'conversion' motor mounts...or you'll have some real fun 'hacking' a new set of ears in...

good luck,

Talk with "bohmer2" from this site; his dad has a 40-something panel with an Aspen front end. he may be able to help you with info, etc on such a swap. If yours is a slant K, do it right and get a V8 one
Diplomats/5th Aves have this same X member all the way to 89! Tons of these in the yards! About the same cost, and no mickey mouse conversion mounts!

Volaredon is correct, my dad's 48/49 Dodge Panel has an Aspen front end under it but it is from a v-8 car. I suppose you could always try to get the schumaker mounts for an f-body car, but I would recommend getting the v-8 k-member and putting it in instead. Without knowing if there was any modification done to your truck during the first swap, there is the potential for additional issues to arise with steering interference and driveshaft angle issues with the shumaker mounts. I have been told that other mopar rods have had driveshaft angle issues magnefied by using slant six k-members with the schumaker mounts for a v-8 when the additional weight of the small block is put in place (I personally think it would be better to use the v-8 k-member if you are planning to put a v-8 in).

I am preparing to swap in a front suspension from and FJM body sometime this spring/summer on a 47 Dodge panel that I am picking up (I think I may up doing a slant six though). I am planning to take a lot of detailed photos of my dad's setup and when I get them done I can forward them on to you at that time. But what I do know is the setup in Dad's panel is a F-body 318 front suspension (360 should be no different setup wise) with a 904 and an 8 3/4 from an E-body. I have never been under Dad's Panel so I dont know how the K-member or anything is tied in.

email me off the group and we can get in contact to talk.
