Post subject: | Head flow with stock intake? |
The old engine in my '64 Valiant is finally beginning to blow a little blue smoke, so it's time to get my spare engine rebuilt. The engine I'm going to rebuild is a '79 Super Six and it is not going to be a high performance engine. I only want the stock engine to be as efficient as possible. The first thing I'd like to get comments on is the flow capacity of the stock heads and intake. I always clean up the ports and polish combustion chambers on my V8 powered street cars with 4-bbls and dual exhausts, but does the stock Super Six intake manifold flow enough air to require any head work? Head porting is not my favorite job and if the numbers aren't there, I won't waste my time. I will be increasing the diameter of the exhaust pipe to match the manifold, but retaining a single exhaust with a Hemi-style muffler. The cam will be a stock version of the later model engines. |

as far as head flow goes, you can make some improvements, but I did mine with big valves and a bucket of cash. http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13881 I am not saying my head is the best or as far as it can go, but I did keep up with the recent article in mopar muscle with what they did to their head. as far as the super six intake goes, I can't comment because I have never owned one. I have always had headers and intake from clifford. |
