Question ? what do you think about this setup? to which i am already committed. in a 70 dart a 225 with three dellorrto 40 carbs(side draught) going to a head w/ .110 shaved off w/ a mild porting job matched to 180 cfms intake and 160 cfms exhaust useing stock valves . cliffords headers to a 2 1/4 dual exaust turbo muffs w/ a crossover pipe. Cam is cliffords 276 mechanical w a 464 lift intake and exaust duration of 276 for both as well. bottom end is stock. I am particurally scared to put the cam in as i have never done it before any advice on building this engine would be greatly apreciated! what do you all think of this setup? John |

What intake manifold are you planning on using?

its cliffords tripple webber manifold (the delorrto carbs have the same bolt pattern) i have all the components exept some linkage and valve springs that im still waiting on. ive allready match ported the intake to the head to smoth out any ridges the air would pass over whare the two meet. as well as cutting away some of the gasket material. john |

I am not familiar, with those carbs. I didn't know if they were like the Webbers, or the SU. You said you are "scared" to put the cam in, so I am assuming, your engine build/tuning experiance is limited. This is second hand info, so take it for what it is worth. Three Webbers on that manifold work very well on a race motor, but are marginal on a mild street motor. In either case, it takes a lot of tuning. You might want to consider, building the engine, and staying with a stock intake and known good carb, to get it running. Then if really want the tripples, put them on later. That way if you have problems, you will be able to tell if it is from the induction or not. |

is it because the engine wont have enough vacume? or rpms are to low with street use? |

John, I really don't know. I have never used the tripple carb setup. Just posting what I have heard from others. I don't doubt, they can be made to work, it is just the amount of tuning that will be required. If your experiance is limited, it could get very discouraging. Maybe someone who has use the "trips", will chine in. |

I like Charlies advice about getting the motor going with a stock carb/manifold....just to baseline things and get the motor broken in. Its hard enough to get a rebuilt motor running right with a mild manifold set without adding extra grief. When ya got her running right,,,and half way broken in you can swap on your manifold knowing any changes come from the intake swap. I think Dennis used a Super 6 for a while on his car till he got the bugs worked out .....and when he needed more bugs he got a Holly 4 barl.....and when he needed even more bugs he got the nitrous. Its so bad now for Ron (lack of bugs) that he needs a bamboozler to bugger him up. |

What about putting the cam in? do i have to degree it? or do i just slide it in? w/ the original timeing chain and gears? |

you should degree your cam .. you can loose a lot of power if you don't ... |
