:?: I bought this sl6 and believed it to be an industrial motor. After doing the search I am lead to believe that industrial sl6's should be yellow, it's not or faded redish  . This number was shown, can anyone tell me if it is an industrial sl6 or not. 22022857-2. Thanks Cam

You cannot judge the original application of a 20- to 45-year-old engine by the colour of its paint. Industrial slant-6s were whatever colour the OEM ordered them in!
The number you cite is a casting number. Can you find any stamped engine ID numbers?

I haven't picked it up as of yet, it's in Olympia, wa, I am still in Inuvik, hoping to have a friend take it to Kamloops for me for the summer. I thought the industrial sl6 would be the best way to for the Convertible over the long term. All I know is from what I saw on the ebay listing. One can still see the pictures, item 8027523581. Long term project. Thanks Cam

Oh, that one. Looks very much like a passenger car engine to me, just the way it's equipped and configured.

I can't think of any particularly compelling reason to search out an industrial slant. Whassamatta, the regular car ones don't last long enough for ya? ;-)

Is there any significant differences between the industrial blocks and the passenger car units? I had assumed they were the same aside from the roller timing chain.

The engine block castings are all the same.
Industrial Slants go a shot peened crank and con rods, the double row T-chain, a HV oil pump and stellite exhaust valves.

These days, you are better served to sonic check a few blocks to find a nice thick one. (weigh them also)
Then buy all the high quality parts you need to build a "special" engine.
With good parts selection and some attention to details, you can build a Slant that is better then any engine the factory offered.

Thanks DD,
That is my goal, do it right, do it once. Where and how does one go about sonic testing? Cam

You can buy one of these:
http://www.defelsko.com/utg/utg.htm
for about $1000-$1200

Or, bring your blocks to the machine shop.
Many shops have the thicknes meter thing.
