Hi all,

I'm getting the parts together for my SBP disc swap and was wondering what MBC people have had success with on the K/H SBP discs. I have manual brakes, and would like to get something with a smaller bore like 1" or even 15/16". Problem is, I've not been able to find a disc/drum MBC from the parts places around here that has that kind of bore. Anyone out there have some suggestions. Its for my 62 Lancer.

Thanks!

MJ

72 dart manual master cylinder is a 15/16" bore. its what i am using on my dart with the volare brakes and with the K/H brakes before them. so far its works great and gives a good pedal feel.

...with power brakes, yes. Nonpower brakes got a 1-1/32" bore master.

I like the 1" bore master used on '67-'70 A-bodies with disc brakes, but that one's very tough to find any more. I agree that 15/16" is a good choice for a nonpower disc setup (and 1-1/32" isn't such a good choice). Thing is, you have to work hard to find the 15/16"-bore disc brake master cylinders. Raybestos MC36406 (NAPA United 36406) may be such a cylinder, as may be #36426. I don't have brake books, so I can't say for sure -- both of these could be the 1-1/32" bore items.

Yeah I looked at both of these on partsamerica, raybestos, and rock auto and could not find the specs on them ;-) They do spec them for Power brakes with disc/drum combos. I guess I can see if my local place has one and see if it says on the box or something. so 15/16 it is.

If anyone else has another they have liked, please chime in.

I couldn't find a 15/16" myself, but I didn't mind using a 1" bore after reading peoples comments in other threads.

My 1" bore master cylinder is a Wagner reman Part#R75800

Gearhead

Gearhead where did you get that from? I've tried looking up that P/N and can't find anything by Wagner at some of my local places. Just wondering.

MJ

PS--NEVERMIND. Call me a big fat liar. I looked for it the last time we talked brakes and couldn't find it. and guess what I found?

Looks good in price too ;-)

I got the number right off the box sitting in front of me, purchased at the local parts store. I tried the link you posted just for kicks and couldn't find the part anywhere on the site...hmmmm.

Have you considered using a late model aluminum master cylinder. No cast iron to rust, smaller and lighter. An aluminum one from something like a 1985 5th avenue car should work just fine. You'll need an adapter to change over from 4 bolt mounts to 2 bolts.

Pain in the äss to use this on a '60-'62, 'cause there's no pushrod short enough. Brake pedal winds up waaaaaay up in the air. Damn nuisance to drive that way (also unsafe) and makes problems with the brake light switch.

Why don't you just use the push rod from the '60-'62? When I did the above swap on my '65, I just used the '65s push rod.

That might work if you use an adaptor plate that has a machined recess for the new master cylinder mounting face. The MP adaptor plate has no such recess, so it spaces the master cylinder out about 1/4" or 3/8" from the firewall. Stock pushrod then becomes too short (pedal too low) but MP adjustable pushrod at shortest position becomes too long (pedal too high).

Somebody was talking on here about a recess-mount adaptor plate. Can't remember who makes it, though.

The adapter plate I make uses the stock manual brake pushrod. The aluminum MC pushrod cup is located slightly higher than the cast iron one so when you add the thickness of the adapter plate you end up back in the stock location. At least it works that way on the later cars. I haven't verified every single year of MC.
