Post subject: | Accelerator pump adjustment |
I tinkered out in the shop today with the acc. pump linkage for a holley 1945 (piece with U in it) and I fashioned one that could be easily unhooked and slid into a different pump actuating slot. My question is, will this give me a better/quicker pump shot by moving the linkage to the shortest slot? I really don't care about mileage, I just want a fatter pump shot to cover the lean spot before the power circuit kicks in. Will I have to do all the measuring and adjusting when I'm done too? |

I tried all the different slots on mine and didn't notice an appreciable difference. Of course I also discovered some p-valve issues once I actualy tore into it, so my experience may be moot. |

If you pull the accelerator pump there is an adjustment on the shaft made by a clip that corresponds with the linkage slot you use. I can't remember which goes with which. |

So the shortest slot is the "quickest" one? |

Jeb, I didn't play with mine so I couldn't say. I just set it where the old one was when I re-built it. It seems to me that the set-up with the longest stroke for the pump would produce more jump. |

It seems to me that the set-up with the longest stroke for the pump would produce more jump. Which would be the inside (shortest hole). It's basically a rocker arm. With the linkage to the throttle, the hole (wherever it is) moves a constant vertical amount. When you're on the inside hole, the arm moves thru a greater angle for a given amount of 'hole' travel. Thus the other end of the arm moves farther when you're on the inside hole. |
