If my race car has coil overs on the front can I install a longer shock to raise the ride height. Does anyone know what springs would work best with a 2050lb car. I need to raise the height of the car by about 1 to 2 inches for header clearance. Any help appreciated. |

Do you currently have coil-overs, or is this just something you're considering? You can raise the ride height on a torsion bar suspension simply by turning the adjustment bolt. As for header clearance - would a stiffer torsion bar or spring work just as well as more ride height? How much distance is there between the headers and the ground as it is? The spring rate, if you do go with coil-overs, would depend on the geometry of your setup. |

never used them, but most race-type coil overs i have seen are adjustable. usually a big aluminum nut under the spring. the shock would dictate the range of adjustability. what body are you running? 2050# is pretty light. who built the chassis? -james |

The car is a 81 challenger on a tube frame. I have coil overs on the front already and I have adjusted the springs util they are curved and cant go any higher. I think by changing to a longer shock and more travel should help raise the car. |

oh, right. i remember you from the banquet but didn't really get a chance to talk much. white challenger with a six pack hood, right? cool car. yeah, you should be able to raise it with longer shocks if they are fully extended right now. -james |

Norm, you might want to check things really close. If you put longer shocks on, you could end up with a bottoming out problem and destroy the shocks in short order. You might also want to consider a taller, progressive-rate coil, if you don't already have them. Roger |
