My step son owns a 1983 Dodge Diplomat Salon with a 3.7L 225ci slant six engine, 3spd auto and a sure grip rearend (I figured that one out from the episode today) The engine still has the original 1bbl carb on it, and from what I have read here and on allpar.com a 2bbl manifold swap will increase the cars low end power and fuel economy which with the current 1bbl is total s***. I changed his oil today for him using a set of drive on ramps, the car got to the bottom of the ramps and then proceeded to spin out (about the ONLY time the car can turn over the tires). Now Im sure this is probably another problem that needs dealt with considering that the car sat for 8 years before my son got the car.
But my actual question is will any year of 225 slant six with the supersix package interchange with his car? If so how much more power/ economy am I looking at for his car? Me and his mother can't afford a small block Mopar V-8 swap that he wants to do and if I can do alittle tinkering to the car for a few bucks it would be great. (And hed see that a six is capable of alot)

Yes, any SuperSix setup will work on your car. Be sure to aquire a complete setup including the kickdown linkage for the transmission. If your car has the "lean burn" system, then you will also have to swap out the distributor. How fo do that has been detailed already on this board.

The SuperSix setup is worth about 5% more power then stock. If you use a 318 BBD then it is worth about 5% more power. Any increase in gas mileage will depend on your sons right foot.

A caution, by '83, the SuperSix was not being offered in passenger cars, if your locale requires emission testing for this vechicle, it may not pass after the swap.

why would he have to change dist. if only changing the intake to a 2 bbl?

Some iterations of the Lean Burn system had computer controlled carbs. To get rid of the lean burn, you have to swap out the dist. I do wonder what would happen, though, if you left the lean burn intact though and just got rid of the computer controlled carb. It might not affect anything?

I dont know if the car having a lean burn system or not. And he does have a heavy right foot (kinda like me and his mom) but for his age he is responsible enough to know that gas aint free. Just out of curiosity what is a BBD Carb? Thanks for the quick response.

Carter BBD is a version of a 2bbl carb. I put one on my son's Dart Sport when we went to the Super Six. Others may use a Holley model.

Ditto on getting ALL the throttle cable and brackets, plus the kickdown linkage, including the lever on the transmission.

I have an 82 D150 that had the lean burn. I changed the carb to a 1920 and I had no problems with the computer. The computer was only working to start the truck and keep the dist. running.

If pulling the super six from the junkyard I'd grab the distributor from the donor car too...it has a really nice advance curve to it (probably better than most 1980 slant six curves)...
