I bought a 79 Volare 4 door for 75 bucks to strip out what I need to put on my 1984 D150 slant 6.

So far I am sure I need to pull the following:

air breather assy
carb and choke assy
intake and exhaust manifolds
I want to also swap the distributor

truck has a manual tranny in it so I don't need the kickdown linkage.

I was also thinking of pulling the header pipe from the manifold to the cat, and then proceeding with a 2 1/4 inch exhaust from there.

Anything else useful on these?

My truck is a guttless wonder right now, it would be nice to go up a hill on the highway without dropping down to 40mph.

Get the accelerator cable and the kickdown linkage. You can sell these later on Ebay.

I have this down to an art now and a set of tools in a bucket to make my life easier when doing it.

Pull pietin, set aside.
Spray down all bolts with some liquid wrench.
Crawl under the car and pull the pin out of the kickdown link then dismount from tranny.
Take cordless sawzall and cut the header pipe 6" down from the e.manifold.
Take wrench and disconnect fuel line from pump and carb (flare wrenches are your buddy), and put in bucket.
Disconnect vacc lines (I just cut with a pair of old tin snips as the lines are almost always rotted out).
Remove linkage pins and put in container.
Soak bolts again, and pull the acc. cable (sheetmetal strip under carpet inside car)
Start pulling the nuts holding the octopus to the head.

Remove stack as one unit (watch your back, lift carefully)...

(I've also removed the stack 'with the head' (have a BIG buddy with you, pay him well).

You won't need the header pipe as it's the same size as your exhaust pipe on the 80's trucks.

So far I've been able to do a 'yard' stack pull in less than 30 minutes if the stud nuts aren't seized...

YES, definitely. These kickdown assemblies are getting harder to find, so it's best to grab 'em when we can.

Ditto what Dan said. If the fel line is all one metal piece form the fuel pump to the carb do Dan's method. If the fuel line is about six inches long coming out of the carb I say grab that piece only.

pneps, I could really use that kickdown linkage. The Super-Six setup I bought didn't come with the little arm off the tranny. Shoot me an e-mail if you are interested in selling it. Good luck with the swap.
