I have found a 82 van with a slant and 4 speed for sale nearby. I was wondering if I could easily swap the tranny (and maybe engine) into my 74 Dart. Does the van have the short tailshaft or the longer tailshaft 4 speed?

It'll have the longer tailshaft if it's the stock tranny. Should fit with the proper modifications.

LOL, I didn't even notice the timing, Big Block Dart has a tech write up on how to use the longer tailshaft trannys in A bodies.

Yeah, I've been reading in the articles section about the swap, sounds doable with some work.

Now, just got to convince my wife the van will be a perfect addition to the yard.

Maybe you could pitch it to her as a (semi-)portable storage unit?

If you do part it out you should post the shifter and pedal linkage over on www.vannin.com. Dodge van guys are always looking for four-speed swap parts.

Brian,

Good to see you around. If you buy it, I would be interested in buying the whole motor (if still an 82) from you. Might offset some costs. I might have some stuff to trade too...

Lou

Lou, I have come out of hibernation!

Your offer is kind and appreciated! I have not had a chance to check it out in person yet. I am stuck at work for the rest of the weekend through midday Tuesday. I am trying to get up with the owner and arrange a look and see session. I should know more next week. :)

I might even need to bounce some questions off of you.

Reed, thanks for the tip on parting it out on vannin website. Much appreciated as well. :)

Brian

:x I'm too late on the van. :x

The guy has already sold it.

Still, I appreciated the helpful info and next time I won't hesitate!

Brian
