ok well i have a stock exhaust manifold as of right now but i am gettting dutras or headers

i have it split 2 feet from the downpipe off the manifold and duals all the way back in 2.25" stainless pipe

i have put two turbo round style mufflers on it and i really am not a fan of how they sound

i was wondering if i added an X-pipe if that would help with the 3rd gear 50-60 mile an hour sounds

i am going with 40 series eventually when i install headers/duals

An x-pipe will help with your midrange power. Also prevents exhaust popping when you back off of it.

I have heard that 40-series flowmasters are obnoxiously loud with duals. Just ask NewLancerMan. I have heard that they are much quieter with a single exhaust.

An X-pipe works best.

As for mufflers and that deep hollow sound, I don't know.

On a V8, yes. On an inline six, usually not so much.

My opinion: Loud exhausts (for any definition of "loud") are fun for a week or two, then they get annoying.

Dusten: the lack of replies is due to the difficulty to repond to your modification. Splitting the pipes is a uick way to make a loud slant. The X pipe just joins your previously split pipes. Im not sure where your exhaust thinks its going,,,,and Im not sure where your exhaust plan is going.

You now have a lot of money invested in a system that will always be harsh in tone. If you think its loud now wait till you get headers.

I have a single turbo muffler on a single 2.25 inch pipe on the Valaint...it sounds like an Austin Healy from the 50s. Turbos work best on a single tuned pipe. If I were you I would try one of your pipes hooked to the stock manifold and see what you think.

Adding an X pipe will be like adding a broken belt to help with your incorrect suspenders.

You might have some success with adding a resonator on each pipe near the back of the car.

On future projects you may have more success researching before installing. I would have suggested twin small 30" head pipes fron DDs or headers merging in a single 2.25 or 2.5" pipe through a single series 50 Flowmaster. For looks you could use a dual outlet muffler and use your current tail pipes. This would have the tone you are seeking and more torque.
