This past saturday I was heading out to a junkyard about an hour away to get some rims for my pickup. I was about halfway there, and was pulling away from a stoplight and heard a pop from under the hood, scared the crap out of me! I found a safe place to pull over and pop the hood, and here's pretty much what I found. ![]() The remains of the fan/impeller shaft were laying in the bottom of the rad. shroud, and the lone fan blade flew over to the drivers side splash shield,in turn knocking the oil dipstick out of its tube! ![]() Here's the wreckage under the hood, somehow the p/s pulley got tweaked and pushed into one of the p/s lines. ![]() And there's the nice gash the fan put into the radiator. I had to get a $129 tow home, but long story short I had the truck back up and running by sunday morning, using some stuff from my trail duster temporarily until the correct radiator comes in. |

Damn, dude. Was that a replacement pump? Any hints (growling/grating/leaking) before failure? D/W |

I'm not sure if it was the original water pump,I just bought the truck about a month ago. The weird thing is it didn't make any noises or anything ,just blew up. |

ouch. you have a rock under the blades (inside the pump) or something? I can't think of anything else that would explode like that. |

I've seen it happen a couple times while I've been working at O'Reilly's, but both times it was on SBC pumps. All it takes is a small casting defect in the wrong place and some wear for a catastrophic failure to result. |

You don't suppose the fan blade let got first, then the out of balance remains broke the pump apart? I've seen fan blades with a crack across it right near the root of the blade. Roger |
