I've been away from the classics for many years ......
I'm getting my 62 Valiant out of storage after 15+ years and finish
the project. Its a VERY VERY clean 62 Valiant V200, no rust 'EVER'.

The question is .. do I really need to have Valve seats installed
because of the unleaded gas now days?

This is a 'Nice weather on Sunday' cruiser.
And I don't really care to be adding the canned gas additives.
Just run pump gas.

I'd say don't worry about it.

The Slant heads have good iron and I've seen no problems with unleaded. If you are towing or do lots of mountain driving, or have a heavily modified engine, seats might be good, but for your uses, it sounds totally unnecessary.

Hmmm......

This 225 Slanter is a bit modified :D
Its boared 40 over, decked and a Crane cam.
I milled the head .125 and installed Hemi valves.
Also running a Holley 350 2bbl with stock exaust manifold.

The reason I ask this question is the area I live in now there really
isn't any competent machine shops within 100 miles to do the job.

Welcome to the board. Love to see some pics of your clean '62! Which engine have you got? Iron 170, iron 225? Aluminum 225?

You don't need to pull apart the engine unless or until it actually requires it. Click the red text to read this thread.

The engine is 1970 225 iron block, and I don't really remember what year
the head is. I don't remember if it's the origonal head, it may be a head
I had laying around from another eng. Its been over 25 years ago I
started this engine project. I started building the engine before I had
a body to put it in.

I'll upload some pics of the car when I get it home, all the old pics
I had of the car seem to have went away.
The car is painted a bright deep Red. The exterior is more or less
complete but the interior needs major work.

I've had motors way more built than that with non-hardened seats, and they lasted at least over 30k miles with A LOT of pounding and no dramatic seat recession.

Thanks for the advice guys ...
I guess I'll leave the head alone for now.
I'll work on getting the interior finished and do some cruising. :D
