I was thinking if the guts or rear casing from a A-518 would work with a slant 6 A-727 trans? ![]() |

You can mount an A518 to a slant-6 in the same way you'd mount any other LA-pattern trans: With an adaptor plate and spacer setup such as the factory pieces used in some trucks, or the one AR Engineering used to put out not long ago. The bigger concerns would be things like floor clearance (not nearly enough in an A-body, serious metal fabrication would need to be done), speedometer provisions, control circuits and such. |

The tailsection of an A518 will not bolt up to an A727. The A518 case, though similar to an A727, was modified with additional oil passages to feed the OD unit. The OD unit will not even come close to bolting up to an A727, and even if it did, the A727 case would not have the oil passages to feed to OD unit. dosnt seem to need that much to do. Assuming equal work you'd be better off with the a-500 anyways. The 727 based 518 takes more power to turn, weighs a bit more, and is not required strengthwise on a slant. |

Lou Madsen has put an A-500 into a '68 Dart with the adapter plate. ![]() |

THe idea of a gearvenders od was checked on but it is to much. You have to go the manual shifting auto valve body to spit each gear, so you should just do a Keisler(?) 5 spd. ITs cheaper to. Im going to talk to some trans folks about this later on. |

I never really considered the Gear Vendors for the gear-splitting, only for the addition of overdrive with minimal floorpan mods. From what I've heard from GV owners, the gear-splitting novelty wears off pretty quick. On the other hand, seems I recently read something about them working on a "brain" that would split the gears automatically, with the tranny in drive. Now THAT might make me reconsider a GV over a 5-spd... VM |

hey. this brain that your talking about is for electirc controlled shift point trans types, not older fluid govenor trans types are like old 3 spd autos. i have talked to GV on the phone and thats what they told me. If you ask me 2395 is a lot for one extra gear ![]() |

The T5 swap is cheaper than the kiesler by a good margin and will hold up to all but the sickest slants.

the t5 swap is popular due to the prices of auto o.d. trans. but I'll be honest i want to drink my pepsi, eat my burger and drive my car in the worst stop and go trafic ![]() |

I get emails on a regular basis from guys wanting to purchase adapters to put the OD auto tranny behind a slant. I still don't think I'll make any more of those kits though since it took forever to sell the first batch I made. |

H'mmm...I'm not sure I quite follow you...seems to me you could solve that problem without removing a desired part from the market altogether, by making it a special-order part with some wait-time required, or by doing a commitment-based group buy, or...?(or am I misunderstanding, and what's going on is that people "want to buy" but won't pay...?) |

Right, I get people who ask if I'll special make them an adapter but then they never send the money to make the order official. If I had people who on a regular basis were sending me money to make those kits then I'd cut the costs (and the price) by building them in batches. |
