You may or may not see any difference, with the MSD, but it will not hurt anything. The MSD 6a, would have been a better choice. You can go to the MSD website, and download any directions you need.
PS: it's time to choke your mechanic.

i bought an msd 5 al universal for my 1 bbl slant and couldnt find the mounting directions so i took it to my mechanic and he DID NOT recommend i install it. Certainly not! There's no way it could. There are other ignition upgrade choices that might've been more cost-effective, but there's no way an MSD box can kill or hurt your engine.
