Ok, finally getting down to the small and big details of assembling my 225. It's almost time to get my crank turned. I was looking on ebay and noticed that they were carrying oversize bearings and undersize bearings. So this is where my ? comes in, I thought that when you have the crank turned that would mean going back with the specified oversize bearings-Please correct me if Im wrong here. But undersize bearings??? What would these be used for?? Im gonna guess--for something like offset grinding a crank??? |

You can use them to 'offset' the crank another .005 or something... Sometimes cranks aren't standard and don't need to be turned either, or someone gets bit sloppy rewelding the journals to be ground due to wear... this is where them bearings come into play... I seem to remember that if you get a mopar engine with an 'X' or 'MX' or 'RX' on the ID pad it will have .010 undersize bearings from the factory or something like that. -D.Idiot |

"Oversize" and "Undersize" bearings are the same thing. The correct term is "undersize", referring to a smaller-than-standard inner diameter of the bearing when assembled in the engine. These are used when the crank has been turned, because cranks that have been turned have smaller-than-standard (undersize) journals. People who call these bearings "oversize" are referring to the bearing shell itself, which is thicker than standard (to create a smaller-than-standard inner diameter). |

Thanks again SlantSixDan! And while we are talking about bearings I'd like to know if anyone has tried ACL bearings - Like what they sell on ebay? Me and a friend have built up a couple of engines using clevite bearings and never had any problems. Very good quality IMO....
