I am removing the old lean burn computer from the side of the air cleaner. Someone has suggested I leave it open to allow for more air. I already have a duct running from the air cleaner to a vent hole just under the passenger side headlight. I have the tools to completely close off the holes or make a sliding door to open the holes up for more air. Suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Oh, and yes, I do have to take off the computer. |

You don't need "more air"—the existing air cleaner snout is considerably larger than the venturi in your carburetor, so the air cleaner is not the bottleneck in the system. And the "extra" air that would get sucked in through the hole in the side of the cleaner would render your thermostatically-controlled air cleaner useless. It'd let in cold air instead of hot when the engine's cold, and hot air instead of cold when the engine's hot, resulting in poorer cold and hot driveability and fuel economy. No benefit!Quote: I already have a duct running from the air cleaner to a vent hole just under the passenger side headlight.
Good. As long as that duct, and the round one running down to the sheetmetal stove on the exhaust manifold, are in good condition and the thermostatic controls on the air cleaner work correctly, you're in good shape.
