I just bought an 82 engine today and it has solid lifters. Right on the side of the engine is stamped 4-30-82. Gary |

1980 should have been the last year for solid lifters. I'm sure there are exceptions however an 82 with solids I would suspect has had a transplant......do you have the casting # from the head?, that would tell us for certain. Compare it to this chart> http://www.slantsix.org/articles/parts-matrix/jpg.htm |

Correct. All American-market Slant-6s (incl. Mexico & Canada) had hydraulic lifters starting in model year 1981.Quote: do you have the casting # from the head?, that would tell us for certain.
Actually, no it wouldn't. All it would tell us is when the head was cast. Remember, all heads fit all blocks, and lifter setups (solid & hydraulic) can be retrofitted in both directions.

Oooops, my bad, should be worded "an 82 with solids I would suspect has been converted" The casting # wouldn't really tell for sure as Dan states. It's late.......... |

Who knows! The original cam may have failed and a previous owner got a great deal on a solid lifter package. Your guess is as good as ours. |
