Mike Jeffrey beat a gentleman from Washington (I believe) with another Valiant named Buzin Half Dozen. We had 12 cars altogether, and 11 staged on Sunday. Doug has the whole ladder and will probably post it when he gets home. Mike went 10:58@125 in qualifying, but had to run on motor only Sunday. We had quite a few first timers, and some really nice Slant street cars.

Nope, no back-up run. Mike broke a ring gear on that run. We changed rears Saturday morning, but all he had was a 4.88 and it was not "juice friendly".

The run was a crowd pleaser though.

I will also let Sandy spill the beans on the Tipi incident.

I was on the return road and he was screaming down that track. My first time and it was amazing. I went out in 1st round but it was a great race .0383 at the finish it was BUMPER TO BUMPER ( which I am used to being from L.A.) Cant wait to run her again and now that i have a benchmark see what I can do to improve-- I would like to improve 2 seconds by next year. congradulations to Mike and all who raced also Oscar who had a perfect light WOW.

All you "bench racers" missed a great three days of racing. Buzzin-Half_dozen and Buzin'- Half'-Dozen (from Washington State) put one a great show. Mike set the Las Vegas slant6 record at 10.58@ 125.00. This was the most asome run I have ever seen and was worth the "price of admission".
Many first time racers and Kevin with his beautiful 1971 "Twister" made long time racer, Mike Williams work overtime to get the win. We couldn't tell who won..it was that close. Hope to get Kevin to one or both of our Redding, Calif. slant six races in May and again in August.
Romeo was there with his EFI slant6 which was featured in Mopar magazine. He went out early with a transmission problem. Otto (no more Red Light) Steelman showed up with his new car hauler toy and ran a perfect 000 in a early round.
Doug and Allen Dutra with two cars...Allen made it to the quarter finals..(congrats) and Doug was trying to get some seat time in his new race car. This car really has some power....In his burnouts, he got it into all three gears and laid down some real smoke with just street tires..A real crowd pleaser.
Rick from LA was there with his Dart and this was his first time out as a racer. Steve from Arizona drove out and raced his early Valliant which was running in the low 19's..Not bad for a stock motor.
Ric Valente was again the early bird and block off our area for all most of the racers who pitted as a group. Ric had his early Baracuda and ran one of the closest races for the weekend in the early finals.
Our car 'Swingin Six made it to the quarter finals where the driver and car did their jobs...Unfortunately, my job with the dial in and I failed to compensate for the 12mph head winds..We lost a very close race to "Buzin'Half Dozen #2 who continued to advance until he raced Mike in the finals...12 cars and we hope to have a full 16 next year.
Again, all of you with your cars in your garages missed another great weekend...We had 3 new racers who have never raced before and now are "hooked". Sorry you missed it...

Allen and I made it home, 10 hours flat towing with our 66 Dart wagon, in the rain. We made it but I am "white knuckled", dog tired.

I sure wish I had gotten the bugs worked-out of the Lancer before getting to Vegas but no matter, we still put-on a good show and had fun even if it seemed like I was working on that darn car every spare moment.

Thanks to Sandy for helping me get the car running after the MSD crapped-out, he also helped recurve Rick's (really Dennis') distributor.

Congrats to Dennis (Slantzilla) for winning the street bracket in his Chrysler 300 rental car, that was a sight to see, good work!

I think I gained 5 lbs. over the wekend between that 2 inch thick prime rib dinner and then the "all you can eat" dinner deal the following night... burp!

I will up-load all my photos and the race results in the next couple of days.
Everyone out West, set you sights on the Redding race in May, this is fun stuff so you want to get in on it.

Dennis "The Sandbagger"...Congrats from Chico. We passed when you were staging for the quarter finals...You had that 300 running (even with the extra weight) right on the number. Keep us informed on your progress with the new sub 12.000 second car. Good going...Wayne/Aric from the Jeffries Cowboy Team.

Congrats, Zilla. Reminds me of a friend of mine, who came to Florida, from New Jersey, some years ago. There was a $10,000 box race, and a $5,000 footbrake race. He had a dragster, and blew the engine on his first time shot. Went a got a rental car, transfered from the box class to foot brake and won.
PS: the guy is good, he just won a division race , 3 weeks ago in super stock, at Gainsville Florida.

Wow ! ...what a fun weekend! For those of you that have not made the plunge to get to one of these races....JUST DO IT!.
I did not have a car at the race yet had a blast. I worked on 3 different cars involving 3 different "projects". Racing is always a thrash and there is always lots to do.
Oscars car (66 Dart,,,fast!) broke a trans mount ($29 in the manufacturors midway). I gave him a hand at 6am Saturday morning...after we lounged over coffee.
I helped Doug Dutra recurve a distributor and time Ricks 69 Dart. We made a whole new curve on Dennis' distributor using stuff at hand. You bet that was interesting...
I helped Doug diagnose intermittant spark...and a cure on his toad. (Bad MSD). I always enjoy a thinking project with people who can think in directions other than linear.,,,,,
While this went on Mike was swapping 8 3/4 gear sets with Dennis....a very tidy thrash!
I was so jealouse of Mike Jeffries incredible race car that I decided to use a big wind on Saturday to toss a big painted tipi at his tow car....it did a pretty good job on the back indow on his box shell....hes a gracious man....and I have a fat cheque book......somehow there is now black glass on my lawn.

I had to leave early so missed Sunday racing.

I lost 12 hours on the way home when the Roadmaster lunched the trans in a tiny Nevada town. Bought a Roadmaster sedan for $200....worked with a 63 yearold guy for 4 hours to remove the trans from the sedan and get it in my car....thrash again! All this in drifts of sand from the same wind storm that flew the tipi. My last day of driving took me from just south of Fallon Nevada to home...16 hours.

I got home and immediately had to drive to Spokane (13 hours return)to ship and receive.

It was truly a blast to meet some very cool folks and an honour to learn from them. .....and sorry Mike.

Next time I bring the Valaint.........
