I have a 1977 Volare with a 225 slant six with a one bbl. I want to build this into a street /strip car. I would be happy with 13.5 in the qrt. I'm looking for advice on this and I don't have alot of money on hand so some of the exotic parts.

Ok, it'll help if you can clarify a few things:

1. Just how much money do you have to spend on this?

2. How much mechanical ability do you have?

3. How long can you afford to take it off the road?

4. What things are you willing to give up for street practicality in exchange for speed?

13.5 in the quarter, and not a lot of money?

Save your pennies and swap it for a small block.

Lots of $$$$, "exotic parts", and wrenching experience will be necessary to get an F-bodied slant into the 13's, IMHO.

I agree, can't be done "on the cheap". especially a street driver.

Sure it can. 4bbl, headers, decent converter, good gears, and spray it. Less money than swapping in a small block, and you only spray it when you need to.

Small block will need all that stuff to make mid-13's too, except the spray. Save all the money from the changeover for juice refills.

Ok, I'll clarify. Cheap is relative. How much is considered "cheep". Cheep to "The Donald", is not the same as cheep to me. To do it for under $2,000 I don't think is possible, in that heavy a car. To get enough power, I think will require some internal engine mods. If he considers $4,000 "cheep", yep, can be done.
Also, I agree, a small block ewap wouln't not be any less expensive.

I'm considering buying another engine to build it. And $4k is in the cheap range.I'm highly mechanical. I have a friend with a machine shop too.

I would be willing to turbocharge it or nos or even a supercharger. I like the car and the engine. I would like to make it a streetable bracket car even 14-15.5 would keep me happy for now.

$4,000 budget, and being able to do most of the work yourself, is totally doable. Many different options. Go for it and have fun.

On a $4,000 budget, you can get well into exotic-parts territory if you play your cards right. I haven't spent that much on my slant with a turbo and port fuel injection, although it isn't quite finished and I don't know if it will hit 13's or not.
