While I was hooking up my 727, I came to the wires that I am guessing are for the neutral safety switch.

Well, the plug that is connected to the wires is a two prong unit and the plugin on the 727 is a 3 prong.

What now???
If it ain't one thing it's two or three others!!

Later,
Dan

Around 1968, Chrysler went to the 3 pin style - the center pin grounds in N & P, the outer pins short together in R for the reverse lights. To work right, the lever inside the trans that pushes the switch must have a plastic insulator on it. While the switch will physicially fit the older trans, w/o that insulator the backup lights will be on in everything except N & P.

The earlier plug had 1 (thicker) pin for the neutral; the A-bodies I worked on had the backup light switch up in the shifter. A 2-contact plug may be for a manual; I suggest you look at the factory manual for your year.

My '68 manual shows a seperate 2pin reverse light switch, but doesn't show where it resides.

The 2-pin reverse lamp switches were used on manual transmissions in '68; the automatics got the 3-pin combination reverse-lamp/neutral-safety switch. Prior to that, the reverse lamp switch on automatic cars was mounted on the steering column or within the floor shifter.
