Where do the problems come in when placing a set of later model slant headers on an early a body?? Where do they hit and what problems do you run into? My '66 barracuda has manual steering and I was looking for a set of headers to fit it but I think clifford is the only place for 63-66 abody headers???? |

Usually the front header will drop right onto the steering box and cross link. The back header may hit the firewall / floor. To fix, cut, bend and reweld tubes as needed, not a bad option if you have a set of cheap, used headers. Not a good option if you are buying a expensive new set. DD |

The Mopar Performance 6X1 will fit, but you have to do a lot of hokey stuff to the steering, and shim up the motor mounts. Modifications that include heating and bending the pitman arm make me nervous.  I have Cliffor dheaders in my '66 Valiant, anf they barely fit. They are real close to the steering box. (manual)  I ahve the headers out now. I am thinking about seeing how close my Hooker Super Comps come to fitting. I'm guessing not very close.

Mopar 6x1 fits, need to dimple some tubes and put in a thick washer on drivers side motor mount. You'll also need the late model starter out of magnum v6/v8 if you want to be able to change the starter without removing the header. |

I'm guessing that the quality (or manufacture) of the Clifford headers has changed, but when I bought a set in 84 or maybe 85, they dropped right in place with absolutely no modifications to the headers, motor mounts, suspension, etc. These were the 6 into 2 style in a 65 Dart convertible with power steering. Of course after I hit a couple of speed bumps the front 3 tubes were then "modified". |

I had the same luck as 65 Dartman. I bought a set of 6 X 2 cliffords in the mid 1980's and they dropped in without any problems at all. My car was a 65 valiant, manual steering and a 4-speed tranny. Rick |

So I guess it would be back to modifying the 6x1 right?

It's not that hard to get the 6x1 in the early A. It fits just as good as any other header I've installed in other cars that had the 'correct' header in them. |
