| Post subject: | Brake Line routing question? |
While switching my sons 72 swinger over to Disc brakes, the old brake lines twisted and broke while removing them. I ordered a new roll of brake line to re-plumb the whole car (if needed) and while looking at the line running to the Right front wheel I took a look at the routing of the line and had this question. That line has quite a few bends on the Drivers side around the steering and torque shaft, and I was wondering if it would be acceptable to run the line a different route? My thinking was straight forward along the frame from the proportioning valve then down across the front side of the K-Frame, back the drivers side frame rail to the right front wheel. There is about a 1" lip along the front of the K-frame where the line could be tucked in and protected nicely. I guess my fear is that in a head on wreck the line is closer to the front of the vehicle and could be damaged sooner. But on the other hand if I hit some thing hard enough to crush clear back to the K-Frame and damage the brake line, I probably am not going to need brakes anyway? Am I thinking to much here?? I think you are thinking about the correct amount. The front end crash thing is a non-issue.....making sure the tires or suspension components dont contact is more of an issue....avoid contact, heat and kinks. As I recall the line goes across the firewall on the Valaint...is that out of the question? |

Sandy, It does go across behind the engine on the firewall. The new route would only be for less complicated bending and installation. I just didn't want to create an problem somewhere down the road. Thanks, Rick |
