Does anyone know who makes the best engine stand for a slant 6? I won't need to rotate the engine I just want a nice stand to keep my spare engines off the furniture dollies that they're sitting on. A friend of mine had his 6 on a cheap engine stand which was only holding the engine by the rear and the engine was slanting forward at a very uncomfortable looking angle. (Slanting sideways and forward)

I rebuilt mine on a cheap stand I got from Harbor Freight. It had a slight upward tilt, actually, but the way they bolt up you could put washers or whatever on the mounting bolts to make it however you want it.

My only problem with it was that I'm tall and it wasn't.

Get a nice one with 4 wheels, not the 3 wheeler. Be careful when turning it over so it doesn't flip quickly. Use strong grade bolts for holding it to the stand.

As far as I know, no one makes one specifically for a slant. You can get some universal engine dollies that are supposed to fit, but they will allow the engine to lean to one side, thus making the assembly rather precarious. I would suggest you build your own out of 1.25" black pipe, along with a "slider" (of 1.5") on the left side to allow you to slide the left engine bracket out for lifting the engine off the dolly. I'll see if I can get a pic or two of what I did so you can develop an idea or two.

Ah, I agree. The cheap one I got from Harbor Freight is a four wheeler. I had no problem with it on a packed dirt floor.

As for flipping the engine too quickly, it would sure be nice if they made them with perpendicular bars so you could get a fresh grip more often.

I do remember one thing I'd fix on mine next time I use it. I'd put at least a longer, non-sliding bar on it, mounted from the center instead of from the end.

Mine had heavy adjustable bars and big bolts. Once I synched it down there was no problem with slop.

But on such a universal be careful about getting the center of gravity of the engine as close as possible to the center of the pivot. That will lessen the flip over problem.
