OK, I have the worst carburetor on Earth, according to experts, but I still have a question about adjustment.

I get a hesitation on slow acceleration from coasting. Usually if I jam it it gooses off just fine, but if I get onto it slowly I get the pause.

What is "normal" carb tuning procedure for this sort of thing?

This, like your other flat-spot system, sounds like a defective (sticking) power valve in the carburetor. That's a build problem, not an adjustment problem. But, it could be a problem with your accelerator pump. Take off the air cleaner lid. With the engine off, open the throttle slowly while you peer down into the carburetor. You should get an unbroken sprinkle of gasoline from the accelerator pump jet in the sidewall of the carburetor. If you only get a few droplets unless you snap the throttle open fast (when you get a good, solid stream) then the accelerator pump was assembled improperly.

Thanks. I'll check that. When things make sense like that why can't I think of them myself?! :-(

BTW, since I tore the engine down and got the rockers oiling the torque drop-off is gone.
