John, wichever way you go, keep in mind, and make sure the trans/converter company knows this:
The diameter of the pilot hole in the end of the crankshaft, and the input shaft of the trans, got larger between 1967 and 1968. You need to make sure of which size you have. It makes the difference of whether the trans/converter will fit and work.

That means any trans newer than '67 would not work on a '65 without machining or a crank swap?

No, it doesn't mean that in your case, because you've got a manual transmission. This discussion concerns automatic transmissions, which do have a fit issue with a crossover year of 1967-68.

I have a 67 dart 225 GT; I would like to buy a TCI sizzler trans, but they do not list it for six...What are diferences between six and eight at motor/converter

As far as the converter going into the trans, that should be no problem. Be aware, though, that there was some pilot size differences at the crank, so you'll want to make sure to get that dimension right. Also, the rated stall of a converter is typically calculated for behind a V-8, and the slant will cause it to stall at a few hundred RPM below the rating. Someone here will most likely post a bit more accurate info, so hang in there. Roger

I understand the bell housings and cases are different? Anyone know what those difdferences are? Is it hopeless to try to use v8 on 225

I would expect to keep the 6 converter, right? In general, converters seem to never fail in stock setups?? so it comes down to trans bolt patterns, etc... And, I need to make some kind of kickdown linkage

WHOOPS! Sorry, John. I missed that you were looking at the whole trans assy. I thought you were just after a converter. Yeah, the bell housing is shaped differently between the slants and LA motors. Typically, it's said that there is no interchange. You might want to call the trans company and ask them if they could rebuild your core to the V-8 specs. Internally, ther's almost no difference between the two. Roger

Thanks guys..I am a 300F 413/440 guy..have not been into slant sixes till this one..pulled a lot out in my day, but gas costs(!) and I have grey hair now..

Somewhere I read that there was an increase in pilot size at the crank - the year 1981 seems to stick in my memory, but... That would effect both auto and manual, right?
