Post subject:  Snap Ring Tool Source to Install A904 Tailshaft Housing?

I was able to remove the tailshaft housing from my 1987 A904 automatic transmission, but I simply cannot seem to manage the snap ring that must fit around the shaft bearing to install the new housing.

I don't have a 1987 manual, but the 1970 manual I do have calls for a Miller tool C-3301A. Is it still the same number for 1987?

Does anyone know another source for this tool?

If SnapOn, part number?

Also, is there a trick for easing the park lock control rod into the receptacle housing?

TIA

Lisle makes a great big set of snap ring pliers that work great; unfortunately, I no longer have the p/n...

Post subject:  I got mine at Harbor Frieght

Harbor Frieght came through for me! I was amazed...after almost giving up because the usual places didn't have the big one on hand, I strolled into HF and there was a two pack...one that opens when you squeeze, one that closes when you squeeze. They are actually well made and cost about $6 for the pair. I was able to use them for the huge snapring on the tranny case to tailhousing snapring on a 833 too.

That sounds great!

Do you have a part or stocking number, or some other means I can use to identify them when I go to my local Harbor Freight store or order online?

Thanks.

Post subject:  Yep, number is 45326 at Harbor Freight

Had to dig out the invoice...number is 45326, usually a whopping $9.99, on sale that day for $5.99!

And as I say, pretty darn good pliers, too! They are by far the heaviest snap ring pliers I have, about 11 inches long and the little round end that goes in a snap ring hole is about 1/8 inch...not one of the tiny hair like ones.

I may never use em again, but sure am keeping them!
Good luck,

I went to a transmission shop yesterday, and saw what tool they use.

Here's the Snap On part number: SRP3

It's $35.00 on the www.snapon.com web site.

Isn't this axle snap ring too expensive? Or I might be wrong. I though it only ranges from $5+? Correct me if I am wrong.
