| Post subject: | Distributor recurve details |
Ok, so I'm preparing to recurve a distributor, and I'm not entirely sure of what I should be doing. I understand that optimal is roughly 10 degrees of static, and 30 degrees total... that much makes sense. Where I get confused is the area in between. I'm assuming that I'm not after a linear transition in between the two points. From what I can gather, I want to be just below the point that it starts pinging all the way through the curve. This is where the springs come in, and that makes sense. You just alter their strengths and engagement points until you get as close to that "line" (actually a curve) as possible. Where I get confused is when you start adding in vacuum advance as well. What should my goals be in that regard? I seem to remember seeing where someone posted some plots of where their recurve ended up, but I can't find them using the search function. I know that I couldn't copy it exactly, but I was hoping to atleast get some help visualizing what I'm after. Just getting a little frustrated, because with todays pre-programmed, adaptable, EFI, "get in and drive" cars, nobody seems to understand, much less be able to explain, such things. For those of us that didn't grow up in the era of carberators and distributors, information seems hard to gain at times. Edit: I know there has been talk of putting together an article on recurving... I should have some free time this summer and would be more than willing to help however I can. |

You talking about my really long post/thread............ http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13264 Treat the power curve (centrifugal) and economy curve (vacuum) seperately. Get the centrifugal down, then you deal with the vacuum. The curve you come up with may be linear, may advance pretty quick, then level off, it depends on your car. Every car will come out somewhat differently. Try a search for centrifugal advance and you may get more hits |
