He doesn't mention re-drilling rotors for small bolt pattern on early A bodies... Probaly adds more weight than the added breaking will handle. |

Andy, note the spelling.......disC Nowhere does the manufacturer mention small bolt patern. Would you cmplain about having to let some pants out, if you bought size 30 for a 40 inch waist ?? Do you think calipers for the rear of a Caddy just MIGHT be big enough for a Mopar "A" body ?? As far as "hideous" looking for a disc brake conversion plate, would you pprefer it painted pink ? Lighten up people !! Irv83 '62 Lancer GT |

Don t get me wrong, its nice that people are making parts for our Mopars. I would consider getting them except that I made my own. Much neater job but thats not saying a whole lot. You can havethe pink ones though. |

yeah, that is the setup i installed on my swinger, and yes it can be very inexpensive to complete. the weight difference isn't that much, but there are aluminum calipers that would work if that was a major issue. the nice part about the caddy calipers is the integral parking brake mechanism that will work with the (in my case) stock parking brake cable with little work. the downside to these calipers is the core charge can be high and they are known to stick if you don't use the parking brake whenever you park the car. the big bitch i had was the lower caliper bolt is too close to the leaf spring. read more/see pics here: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... sc&start=0 it's all in what you want to do with your car, but IMOHO if you keep the small bolt pattern you aren't that interested in high performance anyway with limited tyre/wheel selection and either small stock drum brakes or hard to find/expensive to maintain factory disc setup, neither of which are known to work that well compared to the later large bolt stuff. as for overkill, i have found stopping quickly is as much fun as accelerating. -james |

Not necessarilly............ If you went and got expensive custom wheels and tires for the small bolt pattern, you really don't want to spend that money again for another set of wheels........ |

"Side bar yer honour!" I notice that 8.8 Ford Explorer rear axles complete with 3.55 gears , discs and limited slip are now $250 at Spauldings in Spokane....The Valaint pointed this out to me..... |

Regardless, he's not going SBP so its a non-issue. Irv, do what you like, but as some have said, yourself included, its a little overkill for your application. But hell, just do what makes you happy!MJ |

The pumpkin on the Exploder axle is offset (because its a 4x4)....some body here did a swap where they used 2 shortside axles and shortened the long side tube. |

Thanks Sandy. My ford 8" that I got at the Pomona swap meet crapped out the first time I drove on it ( about 6 weeks ago). I drove the barracuda over to the local alignment shop, and heard some noise that progressively got worse as I drove up the hill. Dang it! The carrier bearings are munched. So, I am looking for a good center pumpkin for the 8 inch, or if the price is right, I would consider a whole new axle. Oh well, eventually I will get the beast on the road. Greg |

Greg, There is tons of 8" stuff on Ebay. Search "ford 8 inch" or "ford 8 posi" or "ford 8 rear". I have a spare 3.00 open carrier if you need it, but shipping might kill ya. I bought a fully rebuilt 3.00 traclok for $450 shipped and a rebuilt 3.55 traclok (new gears) for $550 shipped. Lou |

I understand that the rear end out of a Granada / Monarch is a bolt in swap, just need an adapter U-Joint available from NAPA. |
