I have a 69 Valiant with a 3 speed manual trans. It has a shake/vibration. It primarily starts real bad at 60 mph. I have been trying to smooth it out going with the idea that my tailshadt bushing was worn. I replaced the trans and had a new slip yoke put on the driveshaft, which was also balanced. I still have a shake, which is now feeling a little different. Like my front tires now are sorta egg shaped. I checked them and they're fine though.I've had it. I am tring to figure out all the possible things that would cause vibration/shake/ the car not rolling smoothly especially at speeds of 60mph or more. I have so far, Tires, front wheel brgs, driveshaft pinion angle/tailshaft bushing. What else? I'm at the end of my rope here. It's so bad I can't drive the car, but it's my only car and I have to get on the freeway to get to work. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I'm almost ready to get rid of the car which I love. I have no chice if I can't get this right. I'll go through it piece by piece, but I need to know the possibilities. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks jim

What happends if your on the highway and coats in neutral? If it goes away the vibration is in your driveline, if it doesn't, it should be in your tires.

Bad pinion angle will vibrate coasting also. It does it in my Duster.

The vibraton in my duster is accompanied by noise, sort of like a loud droning. I can't hear it anymore now that I have my new exhaust installed. :D

don't overlook a bad universal joint - sometimes they (partially) seize up and cause a bad shake, even if it's just the rear one

tires can look good and still have a broken cord - swap front/rear to test

test for a loose tie rod too

I have a noise I'm not sure about.
I bought some new tires a month ago, drove a little, then had the car on blocks for 3 weeks.
After I put it back together, a noise was very evident from about 30 mph on up.
It originally sounded like it was from all four wheels, but now I think maybe it's from the rear.

It sounds like the rumble from all-terrain tires on a pickup and gets higher pitch as speed increases. It doesn't go away when I coast.

I think the pinion angle may have been wrong for several weeks because the rear was too high after installing new springs.
I raised the front eye of the springs about 1.5 inch with custom brackets and the rear ride height seems normal.

Would the pinion angle shift because the rear rides too high, or would it more likely shift because of the custom front bracket?
Where do you get wedge-shaped shims like in the manual?

I don't understand pinion angle. The manual shows a "spirit level protractor" for measuring the pinion angle. Where do I get one of these?
Is there another way to do it?
What does the word "pinion" refer to in this case?
