I don't have bionic fingers, so what's the trick to unscrewing the end of the cable at the speedometer side??? And can't seem to get pliers up there either............ |

Tape a quarter to your finger... oh, that was a different thread. If there's a trick I don't know what it is. Sometimes you can get a better grip if you wrap a cloth around the threaded collar. You might hit it with some penetrant first. The @*$& things can be really balky. |

I don't know how yours is attached, but the cable on my son's '74 Dart Sport simply presses into the back of the speedometer. The white plastic end piece has a flexible locking tab that you have to lift slightly (kind of like a lever), then simply pull the cable out backwards. Nothing is threaded on. Jerry |

I think penetrant will make it worse. Won't get to the threads, and then you have even less grip on the outside |

I think D/W uses trans - x it cures most ailments!!! can you not drop the steering column & tilt the dash out so you can get pliers on it? I've been lucky in as much---- the 62's & 63's I've dismantled came apart at the speedo ok-- what about an old fan belt-- wrap it around & try to get it loosened? good luck !! |

What limits the dash coming out is the speedo cable............... And I don't think the column will drop very far either. |

yes, but on the 63 I dismantled--- the dropped column & gently pulling the dash forward gave better access to the speedo cable-- the harness will have hooks on the uppr inner dash that need to be addressed to assist you-- if I lived closer I could see if my bionic fingers could help-- your not coming to Kansas anytime soon are you? Good Luck |

If you disconnect the cable at the far end, you should be able to slide it through the grommet (a little silcone spray my help to lube it) and pull the dash out far enough to get a good grip on the nut. |
