i was flipping through Car Craft and found the gear ratios for the TKO 500 trans. they are 3.27, 1.97, 1.34, 1, 0.68. these ratios would be perfect with 3.21 axle gears i have now. however, it was unclear what vehicles this trans came in, if it did. any help is appreciated.

The Tremec 3550 came in the Mustang Cobra and GT, but I also think many, of the TKO versions are aftermarket. It now appears that the TKO 500 is replacing the 3550 and the 600 is replacing the TKOII

I think that .68 overdrive is to much for a slant with 3.21 gears. It drops your 5th gear overall ratio to 2.18. The .82 5th gear would give an overall 2.63 which most 225s will pull fine on the freeway. 3.91s with the .68 OD gets you 2.66 and very good stop light acceleration, but leaves a big gap between 4th and 5th. If you had big block torque the .68 OD is fine, but with only about 200 ft/lbs to play with it's too much.

from tremec's website i got the impression they were aftermarket only but wasn't sure. i have the A-833OD right now with the 0.73 over drive and a 225-60-15 tire(26"?) and i am turning 1900-2000 rpm at 55 in overdrive. going to a 0.68 overdrive will drop that to about 1700 rpm, which is fine with me if i get the four gears in front of it. keep in mind that it does not require much power to maintain speed. besides, if i want to accelerate, i shift to fourth and get 2500 rpm.

my next question is where is the tko 500 available from? keisler is the only one i can think of. anywhere else?
