Post subject:  jeep tranny in a slant

would the internals from a 999 from an 80-86 jeep cj, have the same internals as the tf 904 out of a 65 dart???
i was watching a show and they mentioned that the cases were different, but the guts are the same. does anyone know for sure??

No. The '65 has dual pumps (front and rear), different 1st and 2nd gear ratios, a totally different gear selection mechanism (linkage and single lever rather than twin cables), etc.

What's the goal here...?

no goal, i was just trying to broaden my selection of junk vehicles to choose from, and i had heard this so i thought i'd ask

also as a side note, what should i expect to pay for a rebuild on the 904?

There is a shop by me that is selling rebuilt SB 904's for $400 plus core charge. They would prob do a /6 for about the same if its out of the car.

Ive rebuilt them my self for less then $200...

when I did the 904 for my scamp i used the lowgear set out of a 80's dippy and a late 70's case..oh and a cheeta manual valve body...i was lazy and didnt feel like working out kickdown linkage.

When I put the 360 in I just pulled the guts and put them in to a SB case.
