After seeing a kickdown linkage for a Super Six sell for over $200 on eBay, I thought I would post this little trick I learned to save everyone some time and money. This will only work on post 66 cars that don't have the twisty rod style linkage.

As you can see, this setup consists of the Super Six intake and carb, but retains the complete original one barrel kickdown assembly. This is installed on a van, but the kickdown is the same for cars.

The piece of aluminium was bought at Lowe's for around $10. All I had to was drill two holes in the metal 7.5 inches apart (this was the distance between the carb throttle stud and the kickdown bracket on the one barrel kickdown with the transission lever all the way forward). You can see that I drilled a little but extra out up by the carvb. I did this for adjustment purposes but then realized that the adjustment at the transmision should be all I need.

This setup maintains the proper one to one ratio between the movement of the throttle and the movement of the kicdown. I have driven my brother's van with this kickdown installed and it works great! Cars will have to deal with the throttle cable attachment though.

You could, of course, do a much cleaner and more professional looking job than a big rectangular chunk of aluminium, but hey, it works.

Here's another trick I used on my 65 super six setup.

You can use your original air cleaner.

Grind the hole in the center of your original air cleaner with a die grinder,
Until it fits snugly over the top of the carburator air horn.(you can use an air cleaner gasket to ensure that everything seals just right.

You then dimple the bottom of the air cleaner (a body hammer works great for a clean job) right above the choke linkage so that the linkage isn't prevented from moving when the air cleaner is tightened down

This retains the clean look of your original setup.

Ive got a question about the adjustment on the trans. Where should it be set to. I used the rod from my 1bbl and the linkage fron the 2bbl and it seems to work good. The thing is the linkage I have is different then most super six set up Ive seen. I can take some pic's and show you. The cars 1-2 and 2-3 shift points are 27and 57 mph with my foot through the floor but at normal acceleration 17 and 27/30 mph. Think I'm off any?

What's your rearend ratio?

The WOT shifts sound right for a 3.23 or 3.55, a bit low for a 2.93 or 2.76.

Cruise sounds good

Closed throttle upshifts for 3.23 1/2 6-11 2/3 11-15
