i've just acquired a 74 dart swinger. does anyone have a list of all the optional extras these things could come with? it's my first 70's Dart, so while not exactly clueless, I'm not up to speed.

Someone, please let me know!

Thanks.

Evan

Are you looking for factory equipment possibilities? Or for accessories sold at the dealer level after the car was manufactured?

well Dan, both, which I know will encompass a lot. But as many as people know. or if someone has a options sheet-parts list they could fax, that would be great.

I would take any info that anyone knows. I'm not picky, I just want to know what else my car could come with.

Thanks to all!

You should just buy one of Galen Govier's "White Books" that cover's the '74 year, it will give you most of what you want, and some other info too...

thank you! that's helpful.

re: the rear window defogger, was the option an 'either/or' situation? meaning, either electric, or a blower? or both....

1) Availability of the rear defog in '74 was a blower type only on all A-bodies except 29-bodies (Duster/Dart Sport). The grid type (lines baked onto the backglass) was available on 29-bodies starting in '73, but not on 23-bodies (Swinger/Scamp) or 41-bodies (4-door) until '76.

2) What's your fax number?

According to the dealer brochure, you could get either a blower or electric defroster on all Dart models, but like everything concerning Mopar equipment, accuracy is always suspect.

The only electric rear window defrosters I can recall seeing on a Dart was on a 1976 model. My '75 Valiant had the blower version.

Yep, the accessory brochures were not amongst the most accurate. NAGS and FPC do not show electric-grid equipped backglasses for 23- or 41-body Darts prior to 1976. Of course, these can be retrofitted as far back as 1967. It's also possible that Mopar dealers were selling aftermarket grid-type defoggers (the kind with the adhesive backing, like you can buy from JC Witless), so that might be why it would've been listed as an available accessory item.

Thanks Dan, and 64 Convert.

My fax # is (323) 525-2372, attn: Evan.

So, how did the blower type rear defogger work? Was it an electrically-heated blower defog? or did it draw air somehow from the heater core in the front?

My Swinger doesn't have it, so I'm wondering if it'd be worth it to put in... Debatable...I'm not in a very cold, icy environment at all, but occasionally it comes in handy.

OK, next couple days I'll try to get a fax out to you. Beware, it'll be LARGE.

The blower-type defogger had a narrow-by-wide nozzle with a bezel plate, located just forward of the backglass and laterally centred. Forward of that was what looked like a single 6" x 9" speaker grille, which was actually the grille overtop of the blower unit. Underneath the grille sat the squirrel cage style blower (looking straight down, you'd be looking at the inside of the squirrel cage). Under the package tray, in the trunk, was the blower housing and a duct hose that carried the air from the blower to the nozzle. The switch was dashboard-mounted. Nothin' fancy here, it just pulled air from near the backglass and blew it onto the backglass. Better than nothing, one supposes, in climates where such devices are helpful.

The blower type worked good in warm, rainy weather when fogged windows were the norm. They were a little less effective in cold rain, and nearly useless in frost or ice conditions.

Boy, I wish my car had one of those. Whenever my back window fogs up I give my girlfriend a squegee and tell her to get in the back seat and start wiping. My front defroster doesn't work either so on foggy mornings I have to hang my head out the window to see where I am going.

Ahh, the joys of having an old car.
